Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to volunteer for Whiskers - the three most common being caring for cats at our shelter in Albany, fostering cats and/or kittens in your home, or working at our adoption center at PetSmart.

Shelter Volunteer: Whiskers needs volunteers to help out at our shelter in Albany. This would require a commitment of about 2 hours Once a week, every other week or once a month.

SPECIAL APPEALS for SHELTER VOLUNTEERS -

- Whiskers needs MEN (or strong women) to move large, wheeled containers of trash and recycleables from the yard behind our shelter to the curb on Sundays for Monday morning pickup.

If you'd like to help Whiskers but don't have the time or inclination to do a regular feeding and cleaning shift on Sundays, this could be the right opportunity for you.

Please complete our online application, and where it says, "Why are you interested in becoming a volunteer at Whiskers?," just say you want to help move garbage and recycling containers on Sundays.

- Whiskers is also in desperate need of volunteers for several specific shifts. In particular, we need people for Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Thursday and Sunday nights. If you're available to work any of these shifts, please be sure to mark them on your application.

Foster Home: Foster parents give a temporary home to rescued cats until they are adopted. We need fosters for pregnant cats, moms with kittens, orphaned kittens, and adults. Fostering FAQs

PetSmart Adoption Center: Whiskers is looking for volunteers or substitutes for our adoption center at PetSmart in Clifton Park and desperately needs volunteers for Monday and Friday mornings. This requires a once every other week commitment of about an hour to care for the cats and kittens waiting for adoption.
