Adoption Process

We receive a number of adoption applications every day and volunteers are working through them as quickly as possible. It could take several days before you hear from us about your application. Be sure to check your email for a message from one of our adoption counselors. Please be patient as we are all volunteers who do this during our free time. Thanks!

The fastest way to get our attention about a cat you're interested in is to complete an online application.  There you will be able to indicate the name or description of the cat or cats you'd like to meet.   Once submitted, the application review process generally takes several days.  You are under no obligation to adopt by completing an application; we only want to make the best match.

Some of our cats live at our shelter in Albany and others live in foster care.  After you submit your application, an adoption counselor will contact you.  If the cat you are interested in meeting a cat who is living at our shelter, we will arrange for a shelter visit; if the cat is in foster care (this is always the case with kittens), we will arrange for the foster to bring them to PetSmart in Clifton Park to meet you.   Cats from both our shelter and foster homes rotate in and out of PetSmart where applicants can meet them during adoption clinic hours.

Whiskers Adoption Clinics are Thursday 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm, Saturday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, and  Sunday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
