Create Volunteer Application

Please fill out our online volunteer application below and answer all questions completely.

Note: If you are under the age of 18, for quicker processing, you can complete the application online. However, during the orientation process, a parent or guardian must accompany you and they will be required to sign a release verifying the information you entered online and that they approve of your application.

If you are under the age of 15, a parent or guardian must remain at the shelter or Pet Smart with you during your shift. Although Whiskers welcomes people of all abilities, a volunteer who is mentally challenged must be accompanied by a responsible adult who will remain at the shelter during the shift. Volunteers with mobility issues should be aware that our shelter in Albany occupies two floors and there is a short staircase between two rooms on the first floor as well.

If you checked either or both of the first two options, please indicate the days and times you prefer below
You can always change your times as necessary. Ideally, shelter volunteers work a minimum of two or three hours weekly (or biweekly). However, those who strictly medicate cats may need less time to complete their rounds than shelter volunteers need to finish their work. Suggested start time for morning shifts: 7:30-9:30 am; suggested start time for evening shifts: 3:00-6:00 pm)
If you checked "Cat Care at our Adoption Center (PetSmart, Clifton Park)" please indicate the days and times you prefer below
PetSmart morning shifts must be started and completed within the hours of 7-10AM; PetSmart afternoon/evening shifts depend upon which days there is an adoption clinic. On clinic nights (Tuesday, Thursday or Friday) the afternoon shift must be completed within the hours of 4-6PM (done before clinic starts). On non-clinic nights the shift should be completed by 8 PM (starting anywhere after 5 PM). The volunteer should expect to devote 1-1/2 to 2 hours per shift. Shifts can be weekly or bi-weekly.
If you checked "Foster Care" above, please answer the following questions
