Stormy and Kittens

We've been very worried about all the moms having kittens outside this year.  Spring 2018 been especially cold and wet.  On April 6th, we received a message from a former volunteer that some kids in Troy found two newborn kittens outside in metal bucket. The kids had taken the tiny kittens inside, and when the Whiskers volunteer arrived to help, the feral mom cat was searching frantically for her babies.  We used the kittens as "bait" to lure the mom into a trap, which only took a few minutes.  Mom and her kittens went to a foster home where they were set up in a small bathroom. But the mom, now named Stormy, was so frightened that she wouldn't go near the kittens or eat any food for three whole days!  The kittens were bottle fed in the interim and everyone rejoiced when Stormy began to eat and resumed caring for her kittens on day 4.

Since then, Stormy has been an attentive, loving and protective mom. But she's still a feral cat. This photo of her shows her typical demeanor when humans approach - ears flat, eyes wide, ready to face any threat.  There's a web cam in her room, so we can keep an eye her and the kittens without intruding too often.  It's such a delight to see how she loves and cares for her twin girls.

Kitten Season is upon us.  Please consider sponsoring Stormy and her kittens to help us rescue more moms and more little kittens living outside in fear and danger.
