Clara

Clara was found injured and starving by two of our volunteers vacationing on Labor Day weekend in a remote area of the Adirondack Park near St. Regis Falls.  They had two sightings of her earlier in the week, but couldn't get close to her.  Then, on Friday evening, they were alarmed when they saw her curled up by the side of the road and went to her aid.  In pain and frightened, Clara ran off and tried to hide herself in a rock crevice, but eventually she was able to be coaxed out with some tuna and they brought her back to their cabin.  After giving her some food (she was so hungry, she tried to eat the dish!), they were able to get a better look and found that she had a gaping hole in her neck, something wrong with her mouth and her front paw, she was emaciated and smelled really bad. She obviously had been injured for quite some time and had nothing to eat.

The next morning, the volunteers called every veterinary clinic within an hour radius of their cabin, but it was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and none were open. So, they packed up and returned home with Clara and brought her to the emergency clinic where she stayed overnight and was examined and given fluids and pain medicine. Her X-rays show that her jaw is broken in three places.  She is five or six months old and weighs only 4 pounds.  Despite her pain and suffering, Clara is friendly and loving - even to the staff at the emergency clinic who were poking and prodding her.

We'll never know if Clara was hit by a car and left for dead, or if she was shot as one of the vets supposed could have caused her broken jaw.  Next for Clara is surgery to repair her broken jaw.  She needs to have a specialist perform the surgery and it will be quite costly.

Please help us pay for Clara's surgery!
UPDATE - Clara received her surgery, recovered well and was adopted into a great home!
