I was one of many living in a house of uninhabitable filth. The stench of urine and feces burned my lungs with each breath. The flea infestation was so overwhelming, our babies were being sucked dry of their life blood within days of being born. The old lady gave us food and water, but not enough for all of us. We did not know the loving touch of a human; our society was ruled by the instinct to survive as best we could.
Then came the days of chaos. Strangers came into the house. Our companions were caught and carried away. It went on for days; each day we were fewer and more afraid. I could barely see because of the infection in my eyes but fear made me quick. I avoided being caught for several days, but then the blanket come down on me without warning; I was scooped up and put into a carrier. My fear made me hate these humans. The pain from my ingrown eyelids made things worse.
That was almost two years ago. I am still one of many, but our living areas are clean and light filled. There is plenty to eat. We are free of sickness and fleas. We no longer fight for food or mating rights. The first few months with Whiskers were tough. My eyes required surgery and there were lots of medications to make me completely well. All the pain is gone and now I see how great life can be. It took me several more months, but I have learned that being brushed and fussed over is a treat. I enjoy playing with my cat companions and all the people who care for us. I will roll onto my back when I get petted. Don't you want to sponsor me...
